Royal Family Trio |
|
In 1672, the Castillo de San Marcos began construction in St. Augustine, FL to protect the city against foreign invasions. The construction began under the direction of the Royal Family of Spain. That Royal Family consisted of King Carlos II, child heir to the throne, his mother Queen Regent Mariana, and his sister Princess Margarita Maria.
Since 1959, the St. Augustine Easter Week Festival has chosen three heritage natives who can trace their lineage to early St. Augustine history (First Spanish Period 1565-1763, British Period 1763-1784, or Second Spanish Period 1784-1821) to represent this Royal Family of Spain. The Royal Family Trio presides over the Easter Week Festival events and makes appearances at additional events upon request throughout the United States.
Applications for the Royal Family Trio are accepted each year between October 1 - December 1.
